OPERATING MANUAL FOR THE REGRETTABLE

I. INITIAL SETUP

Commissioning
the Archive.

Step 01

Connect Power

Plug the USB-C cable into the base of the bust and connect to any standard power adapter. No batteries required. The unit powers on immediately.

Step 02

Join the Presidential Network

On your phone or computer, open WiFi settings. Look for a network named "Le-President" and connect. No password required.

Step 03

Authorize Your Network

A branded portal opens automatically. Select your language, then choose your home WiFi network and enter its password. Four screens total. No app required.

Step 04

Confirmation

Once connected, a success screen displays your network name, hostname, and IP address. A QR code is provided for quick access to the settings panel.

Setup complete. Walk past the bust. It will speak. No further configuration is necessary—though further configuration exists for those who insist on control.

II. OPERATION

Access settings at any time by navigating to le-president.local in your browser while on the same WiFi network.

Sound Control

Master enable/disable toggle. Physical volume is controlled by the trim pot on the amplifier—there is no software volume. The bust outputs mono through a single driver. A physical mute switch on the bust silences output instantly.

Set cooldown between triggers (default: 15 seconds). Configure quiet hours (default: 22:00–08:00, enabled). Test the trigger manually from the panel.

Content Updates

New quotes sync automatically from our server. Set frequency to daily, every 2 days, or weekly. Force a manual sync anytime. Quotes play like a shuffled deck—no repeats until all have been heard.

III. TROUBLESHOOTING

The bust won't speak Check the physical mute switch on the bust. Ensure sound is enabled in the Executive Command Center. Verify you're outside quiet hours (default 22:00–08:00). Walk past slowly—the sensor needs a clear motion signature within 3 meters.
No WiFi hotspot appears The bust takes approximately 60 seconds to boot. Ensure the USB-C cable is fully seated and your power adapter provides at least 5V/3A. If the hotspot appeared before but is now gone, the bust is likely already connected to your home WiFi.
Can't reach le-president.local Ensure your phone/computer is on the same WiFi network as the bust. Some routers block .local discovery—try using the IP address shown on the setup success screen instead. If you've lost the IP, reconnect to the "Le-President" hotspot (unplug, wait 5 minutes, replug).
WiFi router changed If your home WiFi network name or password changes, the bust will automatically revert to hotspot mode after approximately 5 minutes. Connect to the "Le-President" network and run through the setup portal again.
Volume is too loud / quiet Volume is controlled by a physical trim pot on the internal amplifier. There is no software volume control—this is by design. To adjust, access the trim pot through the base of the bust with a small screwdriver.
Quotes are repeating Quotes play through the entire library before reshuffling—like a deck of cards. With 20+ quotes, you may hear the same one twice in a day if the bust is triggered frequently. Sync new content from the Executive Command Center to expand the library.

IV. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Matters of
Public Record.

No. Core playback works entirely offline using locally stored quotes. Internet is only required for syncing new content. If your WiFi goes down, the bust continues to function with its existing library.

No app. No account. No Bluetooth pairing. Everything is browser-based. Setup uses a WiFi captive portal. Settings are accessed through your browser at le-president.local.

A passive infrared (PIR) motion sensor detects movement within approximately 3 meters. When motion is detected and the cooldown period has elapsed, a random quote plays. The default cooldown is 15 seconds to prevent rapid-fire activation.

Yes. A physical toggle switch on the bust provides an instant mute. Quiet hours (default 22:00–08:00) are also enabled by default—nobody wants a talking bust at 3am.

The bust restarts automatically when power returns and reconnects to your saved WiFi network. All settings are preserved. No reconfiguration required.

The quotes are AI-generated satirical content delivered as audio files. New material syncs automatically from our server. The current library contains 20+ tracks with regular additions.

Yes. The setup portal and settings interface are fully bilingual (English / 日本語). Language can be selected during initial setup and changed at any time from the settings header.

Unplug, move, replug. If you're on the same WiFi network, it reconnects automatically. If the WiFi network has changed, the bust creates its "Le-President" hotspot after ~5 minutes. Connect and run through the quick setup again.
